Michael Bloomfield and "Super Session"

Bloomfield's most successful recording was one done in 1968 simply as a jam with no more planning or thought than that term implies. Called "Super Session" by producer/organist Al Kooper, the record reached No. 13 on the Billboard charts and brought Michael's playing a degree of attention that no other recording did. Sony/Legacy recently reissued the original recording with additional material, and also has released "The Lost Concert Tapes," a live appearance by Kooper and Bloomfield that was long thought lost. Here are a few press releases, reviews and liner notes from the CDs.

Michael demonstrates his fire-breathing trick, a stunt he often performed while playing "East-West" with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1966.
